“A tale of returning to our roots”
Master degree Project at Penninghen Paris. Exposed during Paris Design Week 2024
Adopted when I was only 1 years old, Ukraine is my country of birth. I've always wanted to discover my origins. However, the current situation means that this is now impossible. Based on the universal theme of the quest to return to our roots and the search for our true identity, this project explores the powerful interaction between reality and fiction through a photographic series. The images answer questions and fill a void, providing a visual solution that has strong impact and deep-felt meaning. As you will see, this journey to Ukraine in a quest of self-discovery, has only just begun.
“Photography allows us to capture moments of reality while leaving plenty of room for imagination and fantasy. Everyone can create their own unique moment. A mixture of “fiction and reality”. The images fill a void, take us on a journey and leave time for questioning. All the images in this report from Ukraine were taken from screenshots taken with Google Earth software, which enables 3D immersion in cities. The things captured by the images appear frozen. Like a reporter, I spent time exploring, looking for streets that spoke to me, as if I were really there, ready to be surprised by things that called out to me, places to rediscover, places to capture, places to frame, clues to isolate. “(...)
02 “NEW YORK BROOKLYN”
This project was designed following a trip to New York in 2023. I captured different moments using a street photography technique. The main objective is to design a elegant and modern coffee book. Throughout the entire book, after a small introduction, the page layout was designed in order to highlight each photographs. and each framing. The idea was to tell a story of my trip and to show the city as seen through my eyes. The book cover was designed using a serif font and one of the photograph you can also see inside. The design is very clean and pure based on a geometrical grid to create a strong and effective page layout. I would very much like to release copies of this his book in the near future.
03“MERCI LA VILLE, MERCI LES MOTS”
This project is a declaration of love to the city and to words. It's a poetic project made up of a series of 110 photos assembled in a book. The aim is to pass on the words found in the city, pasted on walls, in the metro, in the streets, to reveal them. After a short introduction, the photos are read horizontally from top to bottom. Printed on 80g recycled paper (200g for the cover and back cover). Binding and tracing made by myself.
04“GENDER FUC**”
Exibition in 2023 at La Volia School in Paris, photo and magazine.
A gender bender is a person who dresses up and presents themselves in a way that defies societal expectations of their gender, especially as the opposite sex. Bending expected gender roles may also be called a “genderfuck”.
"GENDERFUCKS" questions and experiments with the gender norms established by society, using transvestism with a punkish, offbeat feel. The idea is to use and amplify stereotypical codes, clothing, accessories, bodies and make-up regularly associated with the masculine or feminine gender,
with no obligation to represent a gender other than one's own. Historically, the purpose of cross-dressing has been to dramatize the dissonance between a gender and its associated codes, precisely to denounce the idea that there are "real women" or "real men".
Our second attempt is that this cross-dressing actively participates in the construction of a realistic character. The aim is not to use these overtly sexist stereotypes to denigrate the gender represented : by seeking a form of parody, cross-dressing seeks to challenge dominant gender norms.
